Change has come again to Big 12 football. Yeah, shocking. Texas A&M and Missouri are gone for 2012, with TCU and West Virginia as their replacements. Nothing underscored the new world order more than the sight last week of Barry Switzer telling Mountaineers fans in Wheeling, W. Va., to expect big things. “I think Oklahoma and them would be preseason favorites. I don’t see anyone else in the picture,” Switzer told reporters. Against that backdrop, here’s a look at some of the things we learned — and didn’t learn — during Big 12 spring practice. // By CHUCK CARLTON/Staff writer

According to Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated, the Big 12 and SEC have gained leverage in what is certain to be BCS 2.0 thanks to the conferences’ agreement to have champions play in a New Year’s Day bowl game.

Mandel writes that the two powers have stolen the spotlight from their conference counterparts- the Big Ten and Pac-12 – by virtually creating their own Rose Bowl. SEC commissioner Mike Slive proclaimed, "A new January bowl tradition is born."

Although the official details are still in the works and the actual game is still three seasons away, current BCS Bowls are sure to have a nerve-racking year. Friday's release was vague, saying: "The champions of the two conferences will be in the matchup unless one or both are selected to play in the new four-team [playoff]. Should that occur, another deserving team from the conference(s) would be selected for the game."

Mandel continued by stating that this bowl will trump all other bowls and leave current BCS bowl games in limbo.
